RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will hold a public meeting open house on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, and on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. MT. The public meeting open houses are designed to share information and gather public input for the Rapid City Major Investment Study (RCMIS) of the Interstate 90 and U.S. Highway 16B corridors in Rapid City. A presentation will be shared shortly after 5:30 p.m. at each of the public meetings.

The public meeting open houses will be held at the Dahl Arts Center, located at 713 7th St., in Rapid City. Both open houses will feature the same RCMIS information. Participants are invited to attend the meeting that works best for their schedules. Representatives from SDDOT will be available to answer questions, discuss the study, and receive community input.

The purpose of the public meeting is to provide information about the study and gather public input on transportation needs, concerns, and priorities within the study area. Area residents, business owners, and daily commuters are encouraged to attend and participate. This study is being developed in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.

Individuals needing assistance, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), should contact the SDDOT ADA Coordinator (605-773-3540) two business days prior to the meeting in order to ensure accommodations are available. For any in-person meeting, notice is further given to individuals with disabilities that the meeting is being held in a physically accessible location.

For those who cannot attend the public meeting or desire additional information on the overall study, information is available on the website at https://dot.sd.gov/projects-studies/projects/public-meetings/#HP559.

Written public comments will be accepted until Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. Comments can be submitted either in-person during the public meetings or through the study website.
